Scoring the Player by Samantha Lind Review!

newarcbannerblurbscoringtheplayerCocky, man whore, player…. Those are all ways I have been described by the media and countless women. Are they accurate? Possibly. But, that’s all I let the media see of me, Brian Kelly, defensive player for the Indianapolis Eagles Hockey team. I have no intentions of settling down and changing the media’s perception of me. I can’t tell if women are after me for my bank account, the status symbol of being with a professional athlete, or if they really want me for me. Then I meet her. The one woman who doesn’t let my charm affect her or cause her to jump directly into my bed. Can I possibly change my ways and settle down?

Grounded, selfless, giving…Those are all the ways my family and friends have described me. Are they right? Possibly. But, I’m so much more, and need some passion and excitement in my life. My best friend is moving on and I want that someone special to share all that life has to offer. Let it be known that I, Kinley Williams, want the right someone special. So why did he have to crash into me? The one man who is so clearly wrong for me. Then again, he doesn’t seem like anything the tabloids claim him to be. So is he really all that wrong?

In Just Say Yes we got some snippets to Brian and Kinley’s budding relationship. There’s wasn’t as easy as Scott and Becca’s because they didn’t have history together. In fact, Brian’s history in the tabloids is not “hubby” material. He’s a player, or… he used to be. He’s tired of the life he’s led so far, and he’s looking for a woman to share his life with. But it’s hard to find a woman that wants to get to know him and not the athlete or Stanley Cup Winner, or rich guy. He wants someone to get to know Brian. When he finds that connection with Kinley, a woman who really could not care less about his status or money, he tries to jump in with both feet.

Kinley is definitely looking to settle down. She’s done with players and one night stands, and she’s done getting her heart broken. So when she meets Brian, and sees a different side of him then the world gets, she’s intrigued. She feels that connection with him, but is wary to start something with him, especially because of the distance between the two. Kin doesn’t want to be hurt again, but she also sees something special in Brian that she wants to explore.

I love the friendship that these two explore first. They don’t have the foundation that Becca and Scott have, though they both want that sort of love, so they begin a friendship first. And this novel is 100% safe, so there’s no dating other people while they develop that friendship. For Brian, he knows what he wants and he’s not willing to risk losing Kin and date other people, but he also has no interest in those women. For Kin, even if she doesn’t admit it, she’s falling for Brian over time, and doesn’t want to date other people either.

I have to say, though, this book wrecked me. There’s some pretty heavy drama in it, and some heavy things that Kinley and Brian go through. They have growing to do because of it. It totally could have torn them apart, but instead it made them stronger. It showed how deep their connection really was. It’s not just physical, but emotional too, because of that foundation they created. Even though it’s romance, and I knew they’d get together in the long run, it still totally wrecked me and made me shed a tear. And it’s not the kind of drama that makes you want to shake one of the people and go “WTF ARE YOU DOING?!” It’s the kind that’s like “oh, baby, no come here,” and make you want to hug them.

I swear, each Samantha book I read gets better and better!! One-click this baby, because it is SO worth it!! You are going to love and adore it as much as I did.

I’ve only read one other book by Samantha Lind, Until You, and it was so sugary sweet I got a cavity… the good kind. If there was a good kind of cavity. Anyway, so I only read the one book and I wasn’t sure what to expect for Just Say Yes. Basically: it was just as sweet, if not sweeter. And I loved it!

Just Say Yes is a second chance, sports romance so strap on your ice skates and get ready for a book that will have you wanting more. Scott and Becca were high school sweet hearts that let Scott’s rise to athlete stardom come between them. While Scott was destined for the NHL, and made it into the minor leagues and beyond, Becca was young and didn’t know how to handle it. So they broke up and let ten years pass before trying to their relationship over again.

All the drama in this, which honestly isn’t much to begin with, has to do with outside forces. Once these two decide to give their relationship a shot, they do everything the can to make it work, and they are so cute! Their drama has to do with the distance these too have, since Scott lives mostly in Indianapolis and Becca lives in Alaska. So Becca and Scott have their trials and tribulations, but the years apart have shown them what and who they want, so they do everything they can to keep it.

I read a lot of dark romances, so Scott and Becca would have been the best pick me up after reading something that ripped my heart out over and over again. Becca was supportive and independent, and Scott had just enough alpha in him to make him possessive and supportive at the same time. In fact, one of my favorite parts about this novel, is that they were both so supportive of the other. They wanted the other to succeed, but they also wanted to be together, they just didn’t want to hinder the other’s career. As much as Scott wanted to drag Becca with him everywhere, he knew he couldn’t. He also didn’t want to, because her happiness meant more to him than anything else. They had to find the balance between happiness, living your dream, and being with the one you love.

This is the first in the Indianapolis Eagles series, and stay tuned! Book 3 comes out soon!!

Blurb
There are two kinds of women in the world – those I can bang, and those
I can’t.
My teammate’s sister?

She’s a can’t.

I moved in with her to protect her from a nasty ex, not to be the next guy in
line.

She’s the brains.

I’m the brawn.

She’s the fruit.

I’m the sausage.

She talks too much.

I don’t talk at all, if I don’t have to.

Should be easy to resist her.

But every minute I spend with Felicity is another minute she gets under my
skin. She makes me feel like something more than a dumb puckhead with a big
Zamboni pony. And it’s getting harder to remember why I need to keep my hands
to myself.

Beauty and the Beefcake is a vegan-friendly standalone romantic comedy
featuring a hockey player whose vocabulary is the only thing smaller than a
hockey puck, a book smart but aimless ventriloquist with too many voices in her
head, a dilapidated old house that may or may not be haunted, and no cheating
or cliffhangers.

Pucked by Helena Hunting Review

blurbpuckedWith a famous NHL player for a step-brother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation many hockey stars come with. She’s smart enough to steer clear of those hot, well-built boys with unparalleled stamina. That is until she meets the legendary team captain—Alex Waters.

Violet isn’t interested in his pretty, beat-up face, or his rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet’s previous misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes more than just a hot body with a face to match.

In what can only be considered a complete lapse in judgment, Violet finds out just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants. But what starts out as a one-night stand, quickly turns into something more. Post-night of orgasmic magic, Alex starts to call, and text, and e-mail and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts, making him difficult to ignore, and even more difficult not to like.

The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn’t want to be part of the game.

Y’all. This book. THIS BOOK. I love sports books, ones that really get into the game and the hardships that come with dating a professional player (obviously I have lots of experience with this *hair flip*) (Ok I really have no experience with sports players, professional or otherwise): the tabloids, the pressure of endorsements, traveling without your S/O. Add in some humor along with it? I am in heaven.

Helena Hunting had me laughing almost from the very first page. Violet Hall is absolutely ridiculous in the best ways. What could come off as an awkward, weird, or shy girl is actually an awkward, weird, confident, girl. She owns her weirdness. And Alex Waters definitely loves that weirdness.

I am a huge hockey fan (LET’S GO DEVILS!) so I was pretty much bound to love this novel anyway. Alex is shy, so not a ladies man, but then he can be possessive and aggressive and I LOVED it. I loved his unwillingness to let Violet go, despite Violet’s step-brother being his teammate, despite Violet being not sure about what to do with him, and ultimately his groveling. I loved that he constantly made sure Violet was on board with what was going on physically (consent is so sexy), and I loved their weird little inside jokes.

The sexy scenes were awesome, the laughs were big, and Alex’s screw up was huge. His groveling was EPIC. And this book deserves every bit of the 5 stars I’m giving it. If you need a laugh, go get this book. You won’t regret it.

Oh, and by the way, Violet’s mom is AWESOME! And Alex’s dad is freaking great. Ok I’m done.

Something So Unscripted

blurbnatashamadisonZack
Finding my teammate in bed with my wife made the decision I had been fighting with for years easier.
It’s time to move on.
A fresh start and a new NHL team in a big city. Most importantly, it’s my son Jack’s best shot.
It would be both of our best shots.
Denise
After a bad childhood, I made sure I would succeed.
The problem is I die a little with each patient I lose. It’s part of my career at Hudson Children’s Oncology Hospital, but it doesn’t make the sting of loss any easier.
Seeking anything other than a life saved isn’t on my agenda until a NHL player walks into my hospital with his son.
We’re officially off script the moment we meet.
If this love is anything, it’s unscripted.

I am so completely and utterly wrecked by this book. I won a copy of this book in a giveaway (join Madison’s Maniacs for updates and more giveaways ;)) from the amazing Women Who Stare At Books, Yamina. I laughed, I cried, I smiled so hard my cheeks hurt, and I died a little on the inside when this book finished. Single parent books always tug at the heart strings, but this one got me. It got me.

Sports star? Check.
Single dad? Check.
Little boy that’s so loveable you want to hug him and squeeze him? Check.
Evil birth mother? Check.
Heroine that loves the little boy like her own? Check.
Big, epic, crazy families? Check.
Alpha males? Check.
DOUBLE EPILOGUE? Check.

Seriously, does this book need anything else? Besides being turned into a movie? This book was so fantastic, I wish I could give it more than five stars. Zack and Denise were so freaking amazing as individuals, but they come together and it’s indescribable how awesome they are. And God, little Jack makes me weep with how strong he is. I want to be just like him when I grow up.

I read Something So Irresistible in preparation for this book, and read it in like five hours, then immediately picked up SSU and just devoured the whole thing. I stayed up all night to read this book. It is that good.  Natasha Madison has somehow created an alpha male that wants to rip someone’s head off for even thinking about his girl, while also being able to show his emotions without being thought of as weak (and Zack has so many reasons to show how he’s feeling). It was so amazing and wonderful to be able to read about a man crying, and not one iota of teasing from anyone else. They are able to fully, whole heatedly, fall in love and wreck me emotionally in the process.

This has got to be, hands down, one of the best novels I’ve read this year (and I’ve read a ton of amazing books this year). This book will forever stay with me. I will come back to Jack, Denise, and Zack when I’m needing strength, when I need to smile, or when I need to drool over some hockey players (lets go NJ Devils!). I’m begging you, go pick this book up today. Now. Buy it in paperback, ebook, I don’t care. You need to read this book. You need to have Natasha Madison in your life, and you need the Morrows, Grants, Hortons, and Stones in your life. You need the Stingers.
